A Culture of Understanding
Our Community Foundation is developing a deep understanding of unmet needs of Eagle County’s local, under served population. We strive to attract and direct new financial and volunteer resources to help families thrive, especially in the areas of food security, health, and education.
Reducing Local Hunger
Nearly 16% of Eagle River Valley residents are living in food insecure households.
OCF invested in the infrastructure required to establish the Eagle River Valley Food Bank as a scalable food security system that has the capacity to respond to immediate and long-term food insecurity needs.
The food security initiatives undertaken by OCF are funded primarily by Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz and his wife Elana Amsterdam, and a local family that wishes to remain anonymous. A substantial in-kind donation of food has been provided by Mitch Karlin, of Karlin Foods. Additional financial support has been provided by other generous unrestricted gifts to OCF, and the efforts of hundreds of volunteers.
