Friends of Mountain Rescue

vmr.logo_Friends of Mountain Rescue (FMR) is the fund raising and fund management arm of Vail Mountain Rescue Group (VMRG).   FMR is devoted to ensuring that Eagle County has a highly trained and ready search and rescue team. Residents and visitors alike become lost or injured in the back-country. This happens in every season and without the VMRG volunteer team, many lives could be lost.

To accomplish this in perpetuity, FMR is working to raise a $2 million endowment fund. This fund will create earnings to pay the annual capital and operating expenses that are not covered by public agency support.  This fund will also enable the VMRG volunteer rescuers to focus their time away from their jobs and families primarily on training and rescue missions, not on fund raising. As of September 2015, $750,000 has been raised.  When the total goal is met, annual fund raising campaigns will no longer be necessary as Vail Mountain Rescue will be self-sustaining, and its future will be assured.
