Community foundations help build and strengthen community and bring together people and organizations that want to make a difference in the world. They are tax-exempt public charities that guide philanthropy and are dedicated to improving the quality of life in the areas they serve.
Individuals, families, businesses and organizations work with community foundations to create permanent charitable funds that help meet the challenges of changing times. The foundation invests and administers these funds.
The first community foundation was established in 1914 by banker Frederic Goff in Cleveland, who realized the value of creating a permanent endowment that would benefit citizens in his community for generations to come.
For donors, community foundations offer a range of charitable giving options that provide tax benefits and strategic advice about philanthropy.
For the geographic region they serve, community foundations provide leadership, expertise and capital to address social issues and serve as a resource for nonprofit, civic, government and philanthropic organizations.
Our Community Foundation supports a culture of community understanding, investment through local philanthropy, and volunteerism in Eagle County, Colorado.

We believe that small non-profit organizations are doing much of the excellent work to help all residents of Eagle County achieve their full potential.
Our approach is to engage with these smaller organizations, identify those that are most efficient and effective in their chosen mission, and to help these high-impact teams to continue to grow in their community influence.
We help the most productive organizations in the valley do more by providing training, coaching, financial resources and tools for collaboration across Eagle County.
Our Community Foundation seeks and embraces the input of the entire Eagle County community. It is this active dialogue that allows the organization to understand community needs, and to make contributions addressing them.
The development of Our Community Foundation is a process that started in 2015 and is ongoing. The organization provides a periodic update on this development and shares those updates on our website and Facebook.
